On-The-Go Healthy Snacks

Let's face it, eating healthy is hard. Especially when your life is busy and you're always on the go. That Big Mac that takes all of two minutes to order sounds really tempting over that salad that took you forever to prepare the night before. But if you want to be healthy, nutrition is key. You have to put in a little bit of time and effort to get results. Luckily, for those with really busy lives, there are other alternatives.

Sometimes, you just don't have time to prepare something healthy as a quick snack. But fortunately there are reliable brands out there that recognize that need and fixed this problem. So here are a few of my favorite healthy and quick on-the-go snacks.

Quest bars. These are so so good! Full of health vitamins and nutrients, and packed with protein. And not that cheap soy protein either. High quality whey protein! Chewy and delicious, these bars will satisfy your hunger and beat any mid-day cravings. My favorites are any that have chocolate chunks like this oatmeal chocolate chip one!

Ok so even though it's not a processed food, fruit is still always one of my go-to's! It doesn't take but a couple of minutes to pick your favorite fruits and plop them into a container to take with you. If you don't have time to prepare fruit, stop by your grocery store and go for the pre-cut fruit. My favorite fruits to take with me are bananas, berries, and pineapple!

If you're really craving that slice of white bread but don't want all those unhealthy carbs when you're out and about, go for Le Pain Des Fleurs. These crispbreads are light and crunchy and full of healthy grains like quinoa. If I have extra time, I like to add fresh ricotta and berries or tomato and raw mozzarella to mine! But you can eat these plain too! My favorite flavors are chestnut and quinoa.

So I've got a big sweet tooth and it's not always easy to control. You can probably imagine my excitement when doctors convinced us that chocolate was good for you. Here's the catch, they're talking about dark chocolate. Not that Hershey's bar with powdered milk fat and hydrogenated oils. So when I'm craving something sweet on the road, I always turn to the dark chocolate and fruit bites by Next Organics. Next takes organic fruits and covers them in organic dark chocolate that makes for a heavenly combination. Even though it's not a fruit, my favorite one is the dark chocolate and ginger bites. I have the world's most sensitive stomach, especially when I travel.  Ginger is praised for its calming effects. But if we're being honest, no one wants to try to swallow that burning grated ginger. This is a wonderful way to still feel the effects of ginger in a much more pleasant way!

Last up is protein powder! Protein powder is a lifesaver! But it is extremely important to make sure you are getting the right protein powders. Here's a tip, if your protein powder has some crazy flavor like cotton candy or brownie mudslide, it's probably not healthy. All protein is not created equal. Try to get a brand that is not full of artificial ingredients and loaded with sugar. Also, try to find out where the protein is coming from. Stay clear of soy protein if you can! Soy is NOT as healthy as it's chalked up to be. It is a cheap source of protein that will do more harm than good in the long run. Two of the best sources of protein are whey protein and pea protein if you can't do dairy. Although, I have problems with dairy too, but if I drink a high quality whey protein I'm ok. My favorite protein powder is from Naked Nutrition. I will never get another type of protein powder again! They have a variety of protein sources to fit any nutritional needs. I like the naked whey. Super high quality protein. We've all heard how good the chocolate is after a workout too. Well the protein powder pictured above has raw cacao too and is sweetened with coconut sugar, not cane sugar. If you don't know how healthy coconut sugar is, go do a little bit of research and you'll be in love with it as much as me!

I hope these health snacks give you some ideas of how you can stay healthy even when you're on the go and need something fast! Have a wonderful Friday!
