No one likes cravings. You get all excited and motivated to live a healthier lifestyle. Clean out your house of bad food, start exercising, and maybe even go shopping and load up your refrigerator with fruits and vegetables.
Then the cravings set in.
Whether its chocolate, cupcakes, or ice cream, they all make your heart sink into your stomach. Cravings come at the worst time. Usually just when you start getting used to the whole healthy thing.
But don't freak out, there are healthier ways to satisfy you sweet tooth than heading for that Twinkie. Here are a few of my favorite sweet treats!
Endangered Species Chocolate. This is always my go to. Lately I've been loving this dark chocolate with caramel and sea salt. Usually I just go for the regular 88% plain old dark chocolate. But when I really need something extra, their other flavors do just the job. Not to mention it goes towards an amazing cause. They donate 10% of profits to endangered animals. You can't feel guilty when you're doing something so good out of the kindness of your heart, right?
Next up are these OCHO bars. Think Mounds bars, but organic. Flavorful coconut covered in dark chocolate. It's as magical as discovering a mounds bar in your bag on Halloween. Only, even better.
Now for one of my favorites. Growing up, peanut butter cups were one of my favorite candies. Until I got older and learned to read ingredients and nutrition labels. I haven't had peanut butter cups in forever. Until I discovered Justin's. These cups come in white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate. My favorite is the dark chocolate. Not to mention they're organic too!
Sometimes I really want something cold, like ice cream. I recently discovered Halo Top ice cream and I'm pretty sure I won't ever get another brand. It tastes like regular ice cream! So crazy delicious. But here's the twist. There's almost no sugar and it's full of whey protein. So not only is it good for cravings, but also great for a post-workout snack!
Last, don't underestimate the power of fruit. Sometimes I want something sweet, but not all processed. Just plain, simple, and fresh. My go to fruit is always pineapple. It tastes like candy to me! So juicy and fresh, and plenty sweet. Sometimes, a piece of fruit is all you need.
So try not to freak out if you get a craving. Instead, try some of these ideas. I hope they work as well for you as they do for me!

Oooh! Those look so yummy! I shall have to look for those next time I go grocery shopping. Is the Halo lactose free? I may start with the peanut butter cups. My trouble is getting them in the house. If it's there, I KNOW it's there and will want it. If it isn't, and I have a craving I have to drive a ways to get organic type foods. My local grocery is getting a little better and just starting to sell organic items. Lol
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Halo Top isn't lactose free. But check out Arctic Zero ice cream. They're almost as yummy and lactose free I think!
