Merry Christmas Eve!
This is my absolute favorite time of the year. I literally cannot fight my inner child from exploding with excitement. It might sound cliche, but I love Christmas so much because I have so much fun with my family. We have so many traditions it's hard to keep count! But I've compiled a few of my favorites to share with you on this magical night.
1. So ever since I was little, each person in my family has chosen a Christmas icon. My mom could not be more obsessed with snowmen. We have snowmen signs, cookie jars, candles, pots, and the list goes on and on... My dad loves Santa! He has many Santa ornaments and even cookie plates with Santa's face! My sister likes reindeer. especially her reindeer socks. And you can probably figure out what my Christmas icon is by looking at the picture below!
2. We always go to the Christmas Vigil Mass. As soon as we come home, my sister and I open up two gifts: a calendar and pajamas. Then we change into our new pj's, get dinner, and watch a Christmas movie. Dinner is always meatballs with a few cookies for dessert!
3. Right before we hit the hay, we always do three things. We always track Santa with Norad, read The Night Before Christmas, and leave a big plate of cookies out for Santa. These things may seem childish to some, but no matter how old my sister and I get, we do it anyways because it's just tradition.
4. At 7:00 sharp, we run downstairs to open gifts. Stocking gifts first, then the tree. But before we move to the tree, we take a second to sing happy birthday to Jesus. It is his day after all! Then, we head to the tree, but no one can open presents yet because we have to find the pickle... It's an old German tradition to buy an ornament that looks like a pickle, hide it on the tree, and the first one to find it gets to open the first present of Christmas. Oh how I have grown to despise this tradition. Every single year, my sister finds it. Every. Single. Year. It just blends right in with the tree and last year it was hidden inside another ornament. It's rigged if you ask me. Oh well, maybe I'll find it this year.
5. After we open presents, we enjoy a breakfast of monkey bread and a day of relaxing and cooking. Usually, we have family over for the day and just watch movies. We are honestly so lazy that we actually discussed having Christmas dinner in our pajamas this year!
I hope you enjoyed hearing a little bit about my family and how we do Christmas! Feel free to comment some of your favorite Christmas traditions, I would love to read about them!
Merry Christmas!
